Chapter 2 Blog Post- Jaedyn Phillips

Hey guys! Chapter 2 of  the book I felt explained how learning is more effective when people are connected rather than working on their own. The authors talked about a connected learning model that includes Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), Personal Learning Networks (PLNs), and Communities of Practice (COPs). Instead of relying only on traditional in-person learning, this model encourages collaboration both in person and online (just like this class). The chapter highlights how sharing ideas, asking questions, and learning from others leads to better overall growth and problem solving abilities.

The authors also stress that connected learning is intentional. PLCs usually involve small groups working together toward a common goal, while PLNs are made up of personal connections built thru social media and the internet in general, and COPs are groups of people who share a strong interest in a specific topic and continue learning together over time. When these three elements work together, learning becomes ongoing and practical instead of something that only happens in a classroom or in a training setting. This approach helps everyone stay adaptable and informed in fast changing environments.

In my personal opinion and life, this connected learning model relates strongly to entrepreneurship, which is what I would like to do one day, because entrepreneurs rarely succeed on their solely on their own. Starting and growing a business requires constant learning, networking, and collaboration. I actually started a car washing business last year, but I unfortunately got too busy with life and had to halt the project. But, PLCs are like working with business partners or a small startup team, while PLNs reflect building relationships thru things like LinkedIn, mentors, online entrepreneur communities, and even podcasts. I think that COPs are especially valuable for entrepreneurs who want to learn from others who have already experienced similar challenges. Overall, this chapter shows that entrepreneurship is not just about having a good idea, but about staying connected, learning from others, and always adapting to new environments and challenges.
