Tech Smackdown #3: Jaedyn Phillips

Hey ya'll, I did Facebook Marketplace as my good website, and Craigslist as my bad. So starting off with Facebook Marketplace, I think this is a really strong example of a well-designed platform. It’s super easy to use, and everything is organized in a way that just makes sense. You can search for items, filter by location, price, or category, and it shows you listings that are actually relevant to you. One of the biggest things I like is that it connects to your Facebook profile, so you can actually see who you’re buying from or selling to. That adds a level of trust that a lot of other platforms don’t have. Messaging is also built right into the app, which makes communication really quick and simple. Now comparing that to Craigslist, it’s honestly the opposite experience. Craigslist feels really outdated and not user-friendly. The layout is very plain, and it can be confusing to navigate, especially if you’re not used to it. There aren’t many filters, and it can take longer to ...

Jaedyn Phillips Chapter 5 Blog

Chapter 5 really stood out to me because it focuses on building and sustaining a personal learning network. The chapter explains how educators can grow by intentionally connecting with others, both in person and online. It is not just about having contacts, but about forming meaningful relationships that support learning and growth over time. This made me think about my grandparents, who both taught at my elementary school, and basically taught half of my town. Now they always have someone that can help them out with a job or whatever because of the relationships they established years ago. I also liked how the author emphasized that being connected is not about being popular or constantly online, but about being purposeful with who you learn from and how you share. When I was reading I kept thinking about how important this idea is in today’s world. We are surrounded by information, but that does not mean we are truly learning. Chapter 5 reminded me that growth happens thro...

Chapter 2 Blog Post- Jaedyn Phillips

Hey guys! Chapter 2 of    the book I felt explained how learning is more effective when people are connected rather than working on their own. The authors talked about a connected learning model that includes Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), Personal Learning Networks (PLNs), and Communities of Practice (COPs). Instead of relying only on traditional in-person learning, this model encourages collaboration both in person and online (just like this class). The chapter highlights how sharing ideas, asking questions, and learning from others leads to better overall growth and problem solving abilities.  The authors also stress that connected learning is intentional. PLCs usually involve small groups working together toward a common goal, while PLNs are made up of personal connections built thru social media and the internet in general, and COPs are groups of people who share a strong interest in a specific topic and continue learning to...
